Edison Capital Agrees Acquisition of Landmark Hotel in Sotogrande with Vision to Create the Region's Premier Five-Star Luxury Destination

01 Aug 2026

London, United Kingdom / Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 1 August 2026

Edison Capital is pleased to announce that it has agreed terms to acquire the landmark 84-bedroom hotel located at San Roque Golf, Sotogrande, one of Southern Europe’s most prestigious lifestyle destinations. The proposed acquisition represents another important milestone in the Group’s long-term strategy of acquiring exceptional hospitality assets and repositioning them into internationally recognised luxury destinations. Following completion, the hotel will undergo an extensive refurbishment and repositioning programme designed to establish it as the leading five-star hotel serving Sotogrande, San Roque and the surrounding Costa del Sol.

The property occupies a strategic location overlooking the renowned San Roque Golf Club and benefits from close proximity to Sotogrande Marina, championship golf courses, polo clubs, luxury residential communities and Gibraltar International Airport. Edison Capital believes these fundamentals provide the ideal platform to create a destination capable of attracting affluent leisure travellers, golfers, business executives and international families throughout the year.

The redevelopment vision is comprehensive. Every guest room will be redesigned to the highest luxury standards, while public areas will be transformed to create elegant arrival spaces, refined lounges, destination restaurants, stylish bars, premium wellness facilities, luxury spa experiences, outdoor leisure areas and first-class meeting and event facilities. Sustainability, energy efficiency and modern technology will be incorporated throughout the redevelopment to deliver a contemporary luxury experience.

Rather than simply renovating an existing hotel, Edison Capital intends to create a hospitality destination with its own distinct identity. The objective is to combine exceptional architecture, outstanding service, fine dining and personalised guest experiences to establish a property recognised throughout Spain and internationally for excellence. The Group believes there is an opportunity to create a flagship hotel that complements the reputation of Sotogrande while raising the benchmark for luxury hospitality in the surrounding region.

Calum G. Melville, Chief Executive Officer of Edison Capital, commented:
“Sotogrande is one of Europe’s truly outstanding destinations. Our ambition is to create a hotel worthy of its international reputation by investing significantly in quality, design and guest experience. We want visitors to regard this property as the finest luxury hotel in the region and a destination in its own right. This investment reflects our confidence in Southern Spain and our commitment to developing hospitality assets for the long term.”

The investment also reflects Edison Capital’s wider real estate strategy of identifying high-quality assets in exceptional locations where operational improvements, capital investment and long-term stewardship can unlock significant value. The Group continues to evaluate opportunities across hospitality, residential, mixed-use and commercial real estate in Europe and internationally.

During the redevelopment programme, Edison Capital intends to work with leading architects, interior designers, hospitality consultants and specialist contractors to ensure every aspect of the guest experience reflects international five-star standards. Particular attention will be given to wellness, gastronomy, technology integration, landscaping and customer service, with the aim of creating a destination that appeals to both international travellers and the local community.

Beyond enhancing the visitor experience, the redevelopment is expected to deliver meaningful economic benefits through construction activity, long-term employment opportunities and increased tourism expenditure. Edison Capital believes that successful luxury hospitality investments should create lasting value for guests, employees, local businesses and the wider regional economy.

Further announcements regarding the hotel’s branding, refurbishment timetable, management structure and anticipated reopening will be made following completion of the acquisition and the conclusion of detailed planning and design work. The transaction remains subject to customary legal documentation and standard closing conditions.
