Edison Capital Invests $35 Million to Launch U.S. “AI-Resistant” Skilled Trades Group
12 Aug 2025
Global investment firm Edison Capital has announced a $35 million investment programme to establish a new AI-resistant service group in the United States, focusing on electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and roofing services for both residential and commercial customers. The initiative marks Edison Capital’s entry into the North American skilled trades sector, with a strategy built on acquiring established independent companies and regional service groups and uniting them under a single national brand. The move aims to capture economies of scale, standardise operations, and build one of the most comprehensive property services networks in the country. Calum Melville,
Chief Executive Officer of Edison Capital, commented:
“While many industries are being transformed by artificial intelligence, skilled trades remain one of the most vital and resilient sectors of the global economy. You can’t automate an electrician, a heating engineer, or a roofer. Edison Capital’s investment is about backing the people and skills that keep communities running.”
“Our goal is to create a national brand that brings together the best local service providers, enhances training and safety standards, and
leverages the operational efficiencies of a larger group.” Edison Capital’s U.S. expansion is centred on the creation of a vertically integrated property services group capable of handling electrical, mechanical, and structural systems across multiple sectors. The company is targeting acquisitions in high-growth regions, with an emphasis on Texas, Florida, the Midwest, and the Northeast corridor. The investment programme includes capital for acquisitions, technology integration, and workforce development. The group will implement unified systems for customer management, logistics, procurement, and marketing, while maintaining each local business’s skilled workforce and customer relationships.
“We see an enormous opportunity to modernise how essential services are delivered. Through shared systems, digital scheduling, and group purchasing, we can improve efficiency and profitability while protecting the craftsmanship and customer focus that define these trades.”
Edison Capital’s decision to invest in “AI-resistant” industries reflects its long-term belief that the human element of the economy will remain indispensable. By consolidating smaller operators under one structure, the company plans to help local businesses compete with large national contractors while retaining independence and local expertise. The new group will also develop a national apprenticeship and technician-training framework designed to attract new entrants to the trades and promote long-term career development.
“There’s a growing shortage of skilled technicians in the United States. Our investment isn’t just financial — it’s about strengthening the trades as a career path and securing the future of industries that form the backbone of American life.”
The U.S. initiative builds on Edison Capital’s global portfolio diversification, which spans energy, infrastructure, logistics, real estate, finance, and technology. The company operates across ten sectors and five continents, with offices in London, Dubai, Singapore, and New York. “Edison Capital continues to invest where human skill, technology, and sustainability intersect. Our investment in the U.S. trades sector combines social purpose with strong long-term economics — building businesses that will thrive regardless of how technology evolves.”
